Position: ReStore Associate/Driver

Position Overview

Understanding of and commitment to the mission of Habitat for Humanity South Georgian Bay (HFHSGB), the ReStore Associate is part of a team (employees and volunteers) responsible for providing outstanding customer service in our ReStore as per set standards, assist in processing and replenishing product, and safeguarding HFHSGB assets. The ReStore Associate/Driver is responsible for fulfilling the duties of ReStore Associate by performing tasks in the ReStore, warehouse or yard as assigned by the ReStore Manager or his designate including but limited to: cashier, customer service, loading and unloading, organizing and stocking product. They also act as driver of our delivery truck and schedule and perform deliveries and pick-ups, as needed. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned, as required. Reports to: ReStore Manager, or if none, then the Executive Director and/or ReStore Coordinator

Areas of Responsibility

TRUCK DRIVER
  • Ensure safe operation of delivery truck for the purpose of picking up donated items and delivery of purchased goods from the ReStore
  • Utilizing the most efficient route, assist customers who have products to donate that require transportation by scheduling pick ups and deliveries in a timely manner
CUSTOMER SERVICE
  • Ensure that each customer receives outstanding service as defined by the standard of:
    • acknowledging all customers with a friendly greeting
    • responding politely to customers’ questions (this will require maintaining up to date HFHSGB and product information)
    • assisting customers with purchases (including lifting, bagging, carrying purchases to customer’s vehicles as required)
  • Assisting customers who have products to donate
STORE OPERATIONS
  • Assist with unloading, processing and the display of products
  • Assist with keeping the store clean and orderly\assist volunteers as needed
  • Operation of office equipment, including answering machines, copiers, facsimiles, telephones and calculators as required
  • Safely operate ReStore equipment and machinery including fork lift, truck, tractor and snowblower
  • Responsible for daily inspection of equipment and vehicles and completion of all logs and records of inspection when operating that equipment as assigned by the ReStore Manager
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager or their designate
FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION
  • The ReStore Associate/Driver is responsible for all cash and charge transactions when working as cashier
VOLUNTEERS AND STAFFING
  • Participate in and/or communicate with the appropriate ReStore committees
  • Attend the appropriate committee or event functions
  • Understand local ReStore policies and procedures
  • Understand HFH construction materials and needs
  • Maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, the Board of Directors, Habitat Homeowners, potential partner families, and the public by exhibiting a high level of interpersonal skills
HEALTH AND SAFETY
  • Follow safety practices; notify the Manager or their designate of a safety/hazardous issue
  • Responsible for carrying out all duties in a safe and healthy manner and in accordance with all legislated health and safety requirements.
SUPERVISION
  • There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position, unless specifically assigned by the ReStore Manager from time to time.
Required Skills, Abilities and Experience
  • Ability to provide outstanding customer service in a friendly and courteous manner
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Relevant post-secondary education or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of five years’ work experience, with at least two years in a retail environment
  • Valid G driver`s licence with clean driving abstract
  • Must maintain current fork lift operator`s certificate
  • Must maintain current first aid certificate
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team
  • Communicate effectively, proficient with spoken and written English
  • Punctual and reliable
Working Conditions
  • Full time, 40 hours per week; work schedule includes some Saturdays
  • Benefits included after successful completion of 3 month probationary period
Physical Requirements
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and to move and handle boxes of merchandise throughout the store, which entails lifting and perform all functions as set forth above
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and perform other manual duties as required
  • Ability to spend the majority of the day standing or moving about store
