Become a Homeowner

Who qualifies for a home?

Families who will qualify for a home are part of a complex selection process. To be eligible, you must meet the following four criteria:

1. Need

Your family must be living in either unsafe, unhealthy or overcrowded housing conditions or be spending a majority of your gross income on rent.

2. Willing to partner

Your family must be willing to volunteer 500 hours towards the construction of your home, in the ReStore or on other approved projects. You must participate in mentoring sessions and/or attend a series of workshops on home ownership.

3. Income Requirements

Your family must be able to afford a mortgage, be steadily employed and not have a huge amount of debt. Your entire family’s income from employment and/or long-term disability (e.g. ODSP) is considered. We are not able to accept families where social assistance (e.g. Ontario Works) or Employment Insurance as the only source of income. If your family has experienced bankruptcy, it must be discharged for at least 2 years.

4. Local Resident

Families must currently be living or working for a minimum of 2 years in South Georgian Bay.
For those who meet the listed criteria, the next step is to complete the homeowner application. We are currently NOT accepting applications.     Submit your completed, confidential application to:
