The ReStore Associate/Driver’s Assistant is part of a team (employees and volunteers) responsible for performing tasks in the ReStore, warehouse, yard and on the truck/on location. The position will be responsible for assisting the ReStore staff Truck Driver with donation pick-ups from private or commercial donors, deliveries to customers, loading and unloading, organizing and stocking product, customer service and occasional cashier duties, as required. The ReStore Associate/Driver’s Assistant must understand the mission and provide excellent customer service to all donors and customers – it is their support that keeps the ReStore going.


  • Ability to lift and carry large, heavy items
  • Excellent communication skills and pleasant manner are key when dealing with donors; customer service experience is an asset
  • Ability to follow directions and work cooperatively with staff and volunteers
  • Because you would be entering peoples’ homes, a Criminal Record Check is mandatory
    • To provide donors with courteous and prompt pick-ups
    • To assist the Driver in selecting quality, saleable donations
    • To inform donors and the community of the overall mission of Habitat for Humanity South Georgian Bay and the ReStore through courteous service and sharing current information about the organization’s activities
    • To help maintain a safe environment for volunteers, employees and the public
    • To work as a team member and to foster a cooperative work environment
    • Ride with driver to pick up donations providing assistance in reading directions or following the map to each pick-up location
    • Assist the Driver in guiding the truck into pick-up and parking locations
    • Greet donors and interact with them in a friendly and helpful manner
    • Work with Driver to select quality, saleable donations, politely turning down any unusable donations
    • Be cautious to lift and move items safely using aids and lifting in pairs as necessary
    • Assist Driver and other volunteers to unload donations from the truck upon arrival back at the store
    • Help to keep the cab and box of the truck clean and tidy
    • Other tasks as directed by Habitat ReStore Staff which may include working in the Warehouse, in the retail store and at the cash counter, as required
Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned, as required. Required Skills, Abilities and Experience:
  • Ability to provide outstanding customer service in a friendly and courteous manner
  • Exceptional customer service skills and excellent organizational abilities.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Relevant post-secondary education or equivalent experience
  • Previous work experience in a retail environment considered an asset
  • Valid G driver`s licence with clean driving abstract
  • First aid certificate and forklift certificate an asset
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team
  • Communicate effectively, proficient with spoken and written English
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Criminal Reference Check required
